"Sometime in the late 1990s, my old band Upsilon Acrux played a show with Carpet Floor at the Che Café at UCSD. I was awestruck by the duo - GSD (yes, Garry Scott Davis, 1st pro street skater and inventor of the 'boneless') playing a “Tarp” and Matt Crane’s unrelenting, stream-of-consciousness drumming. It was intense and ridiculous. That show stuck with me.
Fast forward about 25 years and I started playing music again and met Ryan. In a way, Ryan’s sax playing has that same no-ceiling intensity I remembered from Matt, and I think that Carpet Floor set may have had some influence on my approach to the guitar now, without even realising it until I’m writing this.
Matt had been living on the East Coast until 2024, when I heard he relocated to Long Beach. I reached out - this recording is the result of our one-time studio session.
